On the occasion of the launch and presentation of the Smartphone Application Rijeka Fiume in Flux and in collaboration with the Italian Community of Rijeka, the creators of the app will offer two guided tours on Saturday June 19, 2021. Livio Karavanić, a local authorized city guide of Croatian and Italian descent, will lead two tours of Rijeka accompanied by “Rijeka in Flux” staff.
These tours will present the past and present of the city relying on the ideas, places and insights offered by the app, with a special focus on the Italian cultural heritage in Rijeka. The tours will both start from the square of the Croatian National Theater Ivan Zajc on Saturday 19 June; one tour starts at 10 am (in Croatian language) and the other at 6 pm (in Italian language); each tour lasts approximately two hours. The tours will not only present the Italian heritage, but will use the perspective of the Italian cultural tradition and the markers indicated by the app to offer a physical and virtual journey on the tracks of the multi-ethnic city through an interactive experience that will enhance the potential of the digital and physical tools of the app.
The intention of the organizers is to involve the national communities of Rijeka and offer to the inhabitants of the city and tourists, many other tours in the future, covering and relying on the Croatian heritage in town, on the Hungarian, Jewish and Habsburg legacies, on the Slovenian and other Yugoslav and post-Yugoslav traces on the culture and everyday lives of the multifaceted and multicolored Rijeka.
